State employees injured by carnival trailer wreck
WESTMINSTER — An East Calais woman was one of two state employees injured Tuesday afternoon when a box truck hauling a carnival cotton candy trailer jackknifed on Interstate 91 and hit their car.
Vermont State Police said Patricia Ethier, 44, was driving the state Department of Labor car and Aaron Lewis, 38, no address given, was her passenger. Both were taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. According to a state employee directory, both work for the Department of Labor in Montpelier.
A spokeswoman at the hospital said she could not confirm whether either was a patient there.
Police said both were wearing their seat belts.
Police said a box truck driven by Karl Blanton, of Lenoir, N.C., was southbound on Interstate 91 at about 1:45 p.m. when it left the road.
Both northbound and southbound traffic was reduced to one lane until the two state employees were freed from their vehicle, a Ford Fusion. Rescue workers cut the top off the vehicle, police said.MORE IN This Just InHome fire kills
