BARRE — The Mass of Christian burial for Mary Ann Monti, of Berkeley Street, was celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church. She died at her home on Aug. 12, 2013, under hospice care.
The Rev. Leopold Bilodeau, pastor of the church, was the celebrant. Crucifer Lawrence Reilly read from the Old and New Testaments, led the Prayer of the Faithful and was altar server.
Words of remembrance were offered by her cousin, Sandra Galli Ferber.
Organist Rosie Badeau accompanied singers Romeo Bilodeau and Ronald Routhier in the hymns, “Here I am Lord,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Ave Maria,” “Song of Farewell” and “Lift High the Cross.”
Longtime family friend and violinist Jane Morale played “Be Thou My Vision” at the Mass and “Amazing Grace” at the cemetery.
Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery, where Father Bilodeau read the committal prayers.
The bearers were: Joseph Kelly, William Robie, Real Maurice and Henry Bilodeau, all members of the Bishop Brady Council 399, the Knights of Columbus.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, was in charge of the arrangements.
Born Feb. 2, 1932, in Barre, Mary Ann was the daughter of Andrew and Erma (Carminatti) Monti. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1950.
In 1955, she graduated from the Boston University School of Nursing with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, as well as being a registered nurse. She later attended the University of Colorado in Denver, during the summer months, and became a nurse practitioner.
Mary Ann had a long career in the nursing profession, as a public health nurse in Chester, a nursing home inspector for the Vermont Department of Public Health, and will be remembered as being in charge of medical services as school nurse at Spaulding High School until her retirement.
She enjoyed her dogs, children, skiing, art, music, her beloved Vermont, and was a longtime communicant of St. Monica Catholic Church.
Her only survivors are several cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Lt. Col. Charles A. Monti, U.S. Air Force retired.MORE IN Obituaries
