Darci Whitehorne is the clinic director at Therapydia — a physical therapy clinic and yoga studio — which recently opened at 155 Woodstock Ave in Rutland.
Rutland has a new physical therapy practice offering services that — Darci Whitehorne, the clinical director, says — set it apart from most other physical therapy practices.
Therapydia Rutland combines not only physical therapy but a program “that encourages a wellness path so that there’s more of a holistic change to prevent that pain from happening again,” said Whitehorne, who has a master’s degree in physical therapy.
Therapydia, which opened its doors this month at 155 Woodstock Ave., also offers yoga and pilates.
In fact, Whitehorne said depending on the client and the injury or ailment, yoga can also be incorporated into the physical therapy treatment plan.
“As a yoga instructor and physical therapist I certainly to some extent incorporate much of it with most people,” she said.
Whitehorne can treat a variety of injuries and ailments, with a focus on the spine, neck and lower back, shoulder injuries, as well as post-surgical therapy.
She said what also separates her practice from other therapists is the time she spends with each client. While it’s routine for a physical therapist to spend 15 minutes in one-on-one therapy, Whitehorne said she spends 45 minutes with her clients in one-on-one therapy.
Whitehorne received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Boston University. As a triathlete, she said she was attracted to the academic nature of orthopedic diagnosis and treatment.
She is certified in Active Release Technique, completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training with Kim Valeri from YogaSpirit Studios and continued her study with Barabara Benagh, completing her Art of Teaching training.
Whitehorne has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Vermont and at Castleton State College.
Therapydia Rutland is the second clinic to open as part of the company’s flagship program. The first Therapydia opened this year in San Francisco.
Therapydia Rutland is accepting appointments and offering group yoga classes. The practice is located in the former Bagel Café space at 155 Woodstock Ave.
