• Waterbury youth faces felony charge

    BARRE — A Waterbury teen is facing a felony charge of fondling a 5-year-old.

    Michael Ranew, 17, pleaded not guilty to felonious lewd and lascivious conduct with a child in Washington County criminal court in Barre on Thursday. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

    According to the Vermont State Police affidavit, Ranew fondled the boy and had the boy fondle him sometime last summer.

    When questioned about the incident, according to state police, Ranew admitted the acts.
