Gov.’s birthplace touts upgradeAugust 07,2013
BRATTLEBORO — A new and expanded emergency department at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital is opening to the public after the completion of the first phase of a $7.5 million expansion and renovation.
The department opened on Monday and the new entrance and service area will open to the public today.
Before the upgrades the emergency department was designed to handle about 6,000 patients a year. It now handles about 14,000 patients a year.
Gov. Peter Shumlin, who was born at the hospital, attended an opening ceremony on Monday where he said the upgrades were important to keeping the region modernized in the face of a changing health care system.
“You can judge a community by the health of its hospital,” Shumlin said.
“We’re proud of this celebration today and to all the hard work of the community members who stepped up to the plate and made this all possible.”MORE IN This Just InMONTPELIER — The 22 water systems in Vermont that draw from Lake Champlain are participating in a... Full Story
