MONTPELIER — U.S. Forest Service employees of the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont are taking part in a food drive to help area food shelves.

The drive is part of a national effort called Feds Feed Families. It will run through Aug. 28.

The Forest Service is teaming up with local social service organizations, food shelves and the Rutland Price Chopper. It has a goal of 1,000 pounds of donated food by the end of August.

Vermont Forest Service offices in Rutland, Manchester, Middlebury and Rochester will participate in the food drive, as will the Hector Ranger District of the Finger Lakes National Forest in New York.
