    Not a boys’ world

I thought for a moment this morning that I had imagined the past 50 years. When my jaw got off the floor, I realized it was true: There was a photo in The Times Argus of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ meeting with four teenagers, and the caption informed me that he was “teaching” the boys, while the girls “accompanied.”

The accompanying article described the great experience for the two boys, and included a note that girls got to do something, too.

My daughter was about 5 years old when she asked me why, in most stories and descriptions, it was the boys who get to do things while the girls hang around the sidelines or “help.”

I know The Times Argus is not deliberately sexist, so, please, be more careful.
