• Court: Sawmill is part of farm
    July 20,2013

MONTPELIER — The state Supreme Court has upheld a lower court’s ruling that sawmill operations on a Pomfret farm are part of the farming operations and exempt from local zoning.

In a decision issued Friday, the high court ruled for siblings David Moore, John Moore and Emily Grube, who operate a farm where they do sugaring, logging and other activities.

Neighbors Gary Smith and Betsey Siebeck had complained about loud noises coming from sawing and planing of logs into lumber across the road from their home.
