    DMV is unfair

How is it the Department of Motor Vehicles can make a person pay taxes on a vehicle for more than they paid for it?

A relative bought a car for $800 and had to pay taxes on $3,200. DMV said that was the book value.

This is stealing, crooked and just plain not right.

Now in Vermont do they not know about repairs needed, rust factors and other things a vehicle of $800 will need?

Had the vehicle been bought for $6,500, would the DMV charge tax only on the book value then of $3,200? No, they would have taken the full amount tax.

I think they really need to think things over and change their policies.
