WATERFORD — Vermont State Police investigators say a defect in the braking system led to the crash of a cruiser in the town of Waterford.

Police said the cruiser driven by Trooper Matthew Tarricone was travelling east on Mad Brook Road in Waterford toward the Vermont Route 18 intersection late Wednesday when the brake system lost partial power as he approached a stop sign.

Tarricone’s vehicle went through the intersection and came to stop in a ditch on the other side.

There were no injuries and the vehicle sustained only minor damage.

Police said an inspection of the vehicle found a mechanical defect that led to the crash.
