FAYSTON — MariaLúcia Bezerra “Puzas” Dayton Trezise, 83, died Feb. 26, 2013, at the home of her son Arthur Trezise in Gunnison, Colo., where she had recently relocated.
She was born July 12, 1929, in the city of Barretos in Săo Paulo, Brazil, the daughter of Ilnah Lima Bezerra and Francisco de Assis Bezerra, and the 11th of 12 siblings.
She completed her postgraduate studies at the Faculdade de Psicologia Sedes Sapientiae of Săo Paulo, later working there with abandoned children. She moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1960 as an auditor for the Brazilian Ministry of Finance, then returned to Săo Paulo when she married Arthur Dayton Trezise, of St. Albans, N.Y., who had been transferred to Brazil by his employer. She later accompanied her husband, a U.S. Foreign Service officer, in assignments to Săo Paulo, Bogotá and Paris. She counseled single mothers in a religious shelter in Bogotá and helped her husband in his social responsibilities with the U.S. Embassy in France.
Since 1994, the couple resided both in Vermont and Săo Paulo.
Survivors include her husband; their children, Bridie Bezerra Musser, Arthur A.B. Trezise and Patrick Bezerra Trezise; five grandchildren; two sisters, Silvia Câmara and Neusa Reiff; and 36 nieces and nephews.
