BERLIN — Police say Jason C. Fewer, 41, of Barre, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and theft of service Wednesday.

Around 4:30 p.m., police responded to the Wayside Restaurant on the Barre-Montpelier Road for a complaint of a male walking out without paying his bill.

About 30 minutes later, police received a complaint of a male fitting Fewer’s description lying in the road and jumping out in front of an ambulance that was responding to an emergency.

Police said they quickly located Fewer and took him into custody. While in police custody, Fewer tried to run from the holding cell and processing room at the Berlin Police Department, according to police.

He was taken back into custody after a short foot chase, police said.

Fewer was lodged in the St. Johnsbury Correctional Facility for lack of bail. He is facing charges of disorderly conduct, theft of service, escape and resisting arrest.
