DANVILLE - The principal and superintendent of schools for Danville High School have been cited into criminal court on charges of failure to report child abuse, as well as neglect of duty by a public officer

According to a news release issued Monday by Detective Trooper Lyle Decker, on May 8, the Vermont State Police received a report from the Department of Children and Families about a Danville High School student who had reported to have been inappropriately touched twice by a school teacher on April 29.

Detectives with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation began an investigation, and learned that the incident was initially reported to Noah Noyes, the Danville High School principal. Noyes subsequently advised Martha Tucker, Caledonia Central Supervisory Union superintendent, of the student’s accusation.

Neither Noyes nor Tucker reported the incident to DCF, as required by law as mandated reporters within 24 hours, according to Decker.

Instead, DCF learned of the April 29 incident on May 8, through the student’s parents and immediately called the Vermont State Police.

The allegation of inappropriate contact between the teacher and the student is still under investigation; details are not being released. No other comment was available on Monday.

Noyes and Tucker were cited to court and released. They are both scheduled to appear in Caledonia Criminal Court on Aug. 12.
