BARRE CITY — Dorothy Evelyn Jewett, 79, of Revson Avenue, Sebring, Fla., died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center there. She had resided at the Washington Apartments in Barre before moving to her present home.
Born May 1, 1934, in Waitsfield, she was the daughter of George H. and Luna (Nelson) Brothers. She had attended schools in the central Vermont area.
She was first married to George D. Herring Jr. and they later divorced. On March 23, 1974, she married Robert L. Jewett in Northfield. They made their home there, moving to the Washington Apartments in 2003. Bob died on September 3, 2007.
A nurse’s aide for many years, Dorothy had worked at the former Delary Home, as well as the Mayo Nursing Home, both in Northfield.
Reading, puzzle books, professional wrestling and the Boston Red Sox were her special interests.
Survivors include her six children, Lisa England and her husband, Stephen, and David Herring, all of Barre City, Terry MacDougal and fiancé, Craig Joeckel, of Northfield Falls, Brent Herring and partner, Nancy Hobbs, of Manchester, N.H., George D. Herring III of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Vicky Menard of Sarasota, Fla.; as well as seven grandchildren, Amanda Lawrence and her husband, Jay, Sarah Bouvier and her husband, Matthew, Trisha Commo and her husband, Anthony, Nicole Gallup and her husband, Steven, Shaun England, Kimberly England and Victoria England; and five great-grandchildren, Makeliah Vaillancourt, Noah Vaillancourt, Kathryn Lawrence, Faith Hickory and Kailey Hickory.
She also leaves her sister, Marion Brothers of Waitsfield, and brothers-in-law, Philip Jewett of Williamstown and John MacKenzie in Florida, and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor Tifft and Lena Ainsworth, and her brother, Arthur Brothers.
Her committal service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the village cemetery in Williamstown. The service will be immediately followed by a potluck luncheon at the Moose Lodge in Williamstown.
