• Police: Man arrested in Indiana in Vt. killing

    WESTFIELD — Vermont State Police say a Vermont man has been arrested in Indiana in connection with a killing in Vermont.

    Police said Tuesday 49-year-old Peter Lavalette of Derby was stopped for a traffic violation in Indiana and indicated he was involved in a homicide in Westfield.

    Police say based on Lavalette’s comments troopers found a man dead at a residence on Fuller Road. The man’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased until family is notified.

    Lavalette is being held in Indiana until he is transported back to Vermont to face charges. It’s unknown if he’s being represented by a lawyer.
