Stowe house burns and is declared a total loss
STOWE — Firefighters from four area departments were unable Sunday afternoon to save a burning Upper Hollow Road home that collapsed shortly after their arrival.
The fire, which was already raging when it was spotted by a motorist who phoned it in shortly after noon Sunday, destroyed the home owned by George Lengvari, according to state police. Police estimated damage at more than $600,000.
Saving the house was never an option, according to police, who said the entire structure was engulfed in flames when Stowe firefighters arrived. Firefighters from Waterbury, Morrisville and Cambridge also responded, as did Stowe police and the local ambulance service.
There were no reported injuries. Though the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, a state police investigator, who was summoned by the Stowe Fire Department, said it is not believed to be suspicious.
