ST. JOHNSBURY — Some anglers are upset at plans by the states of Vermont and New Hampshire to stock walleyed pike into the Moore Reservoir between the two states because they fear the fish will prey on other species such as trout and salmon.

Don Pelletier Trout Unlimited says walleye are aggressive and would harm the other fish populations.

The proposal is a joint project of the fish and game departments of the two states.

The walleye would be raised at a Vermont hatchery and released into the reservoir next year.

Vermont Fisheries biologist Jud Kratzer tells the Caledonian Record the reservoir has the potential to produce trophy walleyes and walleyes wouldn’t hurt other fish species.

A hearing on the proposal is scheduled for later this month.
