KEENE, N.H. — Led by a two-goal, one-assist performance from Winnacunnet forward Taylor Blood, New Hampshire came back from an early deficit to record a 4-2 win over Vermont in the 30th Twin State Field Hockey Classic Friday night at Keene State College’s Owl Stadium.

The start of the contest was delayed by a half-hour by thunderstorms in the area, but Vermont wasted little time in taking the game’s lead once action began.

Getting two penalty corners in the opening nine minutes, South Burlington’s Anne-Marie Farmer converted the latter on a feed from Essex’s Taylor Hallowell for a 1-0 lead at 8:15.

Blood got her first of the night less than 10 minutes later, and Merrimack Valley’s Rebekka Donovan scored on a corner feed from Lebanon’s Shauna Rankin-Byrne with 3:15 left in the half to put the Granite Staters ahead to stay.

Blood ripped a 15-yard drive on a penalty-corner set-up from Londonderry’s Jessica Fleet to extend the home team’s lead 12 minutes into the second half.

Hallowell drew the Vermonters back to within 3-2 with 7:35 to play, but Blood ran half the field with the restart to feed an empty-net stuff from White Mountains’ Monique Gassek 14 seconds later for the clincher.

New Hampshire goalies Brianna Rastello of Salem and Averill Endody of Milford combined on seven saves for the victory.

New Hampshire now leads the all-time series 18-9-3. Mount Abraham’s Elizabeth Huizenga and Burlington’s Evelyn Schaedel recorded a total of six stops in the Vermont net.
