BARRE — Police say a 16-year-old has been issued a citation in connection with a police chase that ended in a crash in Barre Wednesday morning.

The individual, whose name has not been released by police, has been cited for attempting to elude, careless and negligent operation and aggravated assault on a police officer.

According to police, there was a report of some males in a white vehicle breaking into cars on Bugbee Avenue and Short Street. Upon arrival, police located a white Ford Escape with three males inside at the intersection of Maple Street and Seminary Street, and after the vehicle was pulled over, it fled the scene as police approached.

A pursuit ensued and the vehicle crashed near Boynton Street where the three males fled on foot. Police say a cellphone and wallet were found in the vehicle and from those items they were able to identify the individuals involved and contacted their parents.
