Law to crack down on drinking and boating
WILLISTON — The Vermont State Police Marine Division and two other law enforcement agencies are going to be cracking down on intoxicated boating this weekend.
The state police, the Grand Isle Sheriff’s Department and the Colchester Police Marine Unit will be participating in Operation Dry Water as part of a nationally coordinated effort to reduce the number of accidents caused by operators who are under the influence of alcohol.
This weekend’s operation will focus on Lake Champlain, but state police officers will be working on other bodies of water as well.
It will include increased patrols, breathalyzer tests, and checkpoints as well as boater education.
Police say impaired boaters can expect to be arrested or face other serious penalties, including the possibility of fines, jail or loss of boating privileges.
