• Vt Labor Department offers help to fired IBM’ers

    BURLINGTON — The Vermont Department of Labor plans to hold is first sessions to help laid-off IBM employees next week.

    State officials said this week that IBM had notified them that a national reorganization would result in job losses in Vermont. IBM spokesman Jeff Couture had said the company does not publicly discuss the details of staffing plans.

    The Labor Department will hold two sessions daily Wednesday and again June 22 at the Sheraton Hotel in Burlington.

    Department staff will provide information about services available to those who have lost their jobs, including job placement and training programs, unemployment insurance and how to research job information.

    The sessions start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
