Returning to Montpelier, she entered the public school system and graduated from Montpelier High School with the class of 1962. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1967. That same spring, she began employment with New England Telephone in their customer service department, a job she held until her “first” retirement in 1991.

Later she started and ran Barre Street Beverage & Redemption, until she sold it in 2002 and “retired” again. Briefly she was employed at East Montpelier Home Center, and most recently she was the collection specialist for Casella Waste Management in their Montpelier office.
During her 42 years living in East Montpelier, she was a member of the Old Brick Church, serving on various committees and as a Sunday school teacher. When her children were younger she was involved in both Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts. At the time of her passing, she was a justice of the peace and an auditor for the town.
In 1969, Sally married Richard L. Longhi. They were later divorced. She is survived by her two children, Christopher Longhi and his wife, Gretchen, of Middlesex, and Julia Longhi Haynes and her husband, Paul, of East Montpelier. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Charles W. Haynes, Audrey J. Longhi, Christin L. Haynes and Josephine A. Longhi, as well as distant cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and an infant granddaughter, Autumn M. Longhi.
Sally was an inspiration to her family and friends. She had a tenacious spirit and strong character. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
