Barre man denies threatening to ‘gut’ woman
BARRE — A Granite City man is being held on bail after allegedly threatening to “gut” the mother of his child with a knife on Mother’s Day.
Sean Clark, 42, is being held on $15,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to felony aggravated domestic assault with a weapon, felony unlawful restraint, domestic assault and interference with access to emergency services Monday in Washington County criminal court in Barre. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 22½ years in prison and a $60,000 fine.
According to the police affidavit, officers responded to a 911 call Sunday night on South Main Street. Police say the woman had blood smeared on her face and neck and that Clark had scratches on his face and neck.
Police say the woman told them Clark asked her to come over to his residence so he could see their child. The woman told police Clark was intoxicated when she arrived and that they began to argue about her seeing someone new and not living with Clark anymore. During that argument Clark took her purse with her cellphone in it, police say the woman told them.
Later in the night, the two started arguing again, according to the woman, and Clark grabbed her by the hair, pulling her out of the bedroom to the living room. Clark let go of her hair and dragged her by her ankles to the living room, police say she told them.
When the woman tried to get up, she told police, Clark grabbed her by the throat and threw her on top of a dog. She told police Clark also spit in her face, got up, picked up a knife and said he would “gut” her, according to the affidavit.
The woman told police she scratched Clark’s face and neck in self-defense during the fight.
Clark told police the woman came into his bedroom, started an argument about a girl he was seeing and punched him in the face, according to the affidavit.
Clark was convicted of felony aggravated assault and simple assault in 2010.
