Vermont’s largest hospital is seeking state permission for a big construction project. Burlington’s Fletcher Allen Health Care wants to spend $3.7 million to design a new in-patient building with up to 128 single-patient rooms.

Hospital officials said the new facility would replace some of the most outdated parts of its campus.

Fletcher Allen also is seeking to replace its existing Mother and Baby Unit.

Hospital officials said the upgrades are needed to meet current standards of medicine.

In both cases, the hospital applied Wednesday for a certificate of need from the state’s Green Mountain Care Board.
