    Don’t trash the pond

The situation with Berlin Pond has been a heated one. I am one of the people who believe the pond should remain closed, as it has been for multiple decades. Since the pond has been opened I can’t help but notice the changes. The walkers, runners, bikers and bird-watchers, who have traditionally used the pond, have always been respectful of the pond and the wildlife that lives there.

Since the “new” users have been visiting the pond I have noticed a huge amount of trash, which includes everything from discarded bottles and cans to big bags of trash that get dumped by the side of the road. This is such a tremendous show of disrespect for the pond, the area surrounding the pond, the wildlife and the people who reside in the area.

Why is it that the traditional users of the pond have always been so respectful of this beautiful, serene wildlife sanctuary, and the new users have a total disregard for the area? If you don’t trash your yard, don’t trash the pond.
