ENOSBURG — Investigators say a crash that killed a Vermont teenager last month happened when the Jeep he was riding in tried to avoid an oncoming pickup, but ended up with both vehicles swerving and colliding.

Police say 53-year-old Patrick Prue of Franklin was driving the pickup in the Route 105 accident in Enosburg. Prue, who was not injured, was charged with driving while under the influence with death resulting.

Seventeen-year-old Brandon Gleason, the front passenger in the Jeep, died. He was a senior at Enosburg Falls High School and was the state’s Mountain Division basketball player of the year this past season.

The Burlington Free Press reported that investigators say when the Jeep’s driver swerved to avoid the crash, Prue also swerved back into his lane and struck the Jeep.
