    Citizen prompts

    arrest for DUI

    staff report

MIDDLESEX ó A close call on Route 12 over the weekend prompted what amounted to a citizenís arrest that ended when a Burlington woman was taken into police custody and cited for drunken driving.

According to Vermont State Police, a Middlesex man called to report he had just narrowly avoided a head-on collision with another vehicle while driving on Route 12 shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police did not name the man, but said he turned around, caught up to the vehicle and was able to get the driver, Carrie Peck, 39, to pull over.

The man allegedly told police he believed Peck was impaired and when they arrived at the scene she was taken into custody, processed for DUI, and released on a citation to appear at the criminal courthouse in Barre on May 23. Peck is expected to be charged with driving under the influence at that time.
