Time to take action
For the past few weeks I have been researching information on the issue of racial inequality. I never realized how bad it still is all over the world. Itís happening everywhere from the United States to halfway across the world in South Africa, and this issue is just getting worse.
Did you know that on average, white households in the United States are 20 times wealthier than black and Hispanic households? And about one in nine black men age 20 to 34 is serving time in jail as well as one in 36 adult Hispanic men. Since 2000, the number of hate groups across the country has increased by 69 percent to where now there are currently 1,018 of them. South Africa until recently suffered legal segregation of the African population from the Europeans.
Now this is obviously an issue and there are groups trying to stop it, but they canít do it alone. The word needs to get out to people, so they can help, too. There are many things that you and all other everyday ordinary people can do. One important thing you can do is form a group in your community that focuses on trying to stop racial inequality. You could also make posters, put up signs, or just plain stick up for somebody who is being treated badly because of the color of their skin. You could make a website about why racial inequality is an issue and what people can do to stop it and tell people about it. For help or more information on how to get started, go to DoSomething.org or NAACP.org.
There are many things people can do to stop this problem, and we need to spread the word and let as many people know as possible. The way the world is now is not a good thing, and the only way it will change is if together we take action.
