NORTHFIELD — A Northfield man is facing a charge of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Justin R. Langlois, 20, pleaded not guilty Thursday to sexual assault of a victim under 16 years old, a felony, in Washington County criminal court in Barre. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the Northfield police affidavit, police were told the girl was sexually active with a man. Police said the girl told them Langlois picked up her and another 14-year-old girl from school in his car. The three then went driving on back roads that none of them could remember.

The girl told police Langlois parked the car by a cabin and that the second girl got out of the car and went for a walk, according to the affidavit. Police said the alleged victim told them Langlois asked to have sex with her “because he was wanting it so bad and I said yes.” The girl told police she and Langlois had sex.

Police also interviewed the other girl and said she told them that after Langlois picked the two girls up he kept asking both to have sex, which she declined.

When police spoke with Langlois, they said, he denied having sex with the girl but did admit picking the two girls up and driving them around.

Langlois told police he thought the girl had a crush on him.

Langlois had been previously investigated on suspicion of inappropriate contact with a female, but no charges were brought.
