ST. JOHNSBURY ó The town of St. Johnsbury wants to examine evidence of carcinogenic toxins at the former armory.

The town and the nonprofit St. Johnsbury History and Heritage Center are teaming up to contract the study. The center is leasing the shuttered armory for a dollar and has an option to buy it.

The study will evaluate carcinogenic toxins called polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, in the armoryís basement floor paint.

The center is interested in setting up a museum of local artifacts there.
