Firefighters from throughout the region rushed to the scene of a brush fire which destroyed a barn at the Carver Tree Farm on Casavant Road in East Montpelier Wednesday afternoon. According to Keith Hudson, who was the first on the scene, the two story barn was engulfed in flamed when he arrived on the scene early Wednesday afternoon. East Montpelier Fire Chief Ty Rolland said that approximately 50 firefighters responded to the blaze which swept through the barn and surrounding land. The firefighters managed to keep the fire from jumping the road and destroying the home on Gosavant Rd in East Montpelier. Firefighters were continuing to hose down the smoking brush, and estimated that between 4 and 5 acres had been exposed. Among the departments that responded were East Montpelier, Plainfield, Barre Town, Calais, Worcester, Berlin, and Montpelier
EAST MONTPELIER - An afternoon fire destroyed a barn and some farming equipment at the Carver Family Tree Farm on Casavant Road.
About 50 firefighters from seven area departments responded to the blaze around 2:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. The barn, which contained equipment used by the Carvers, was destroyed.
The cause of the blaze is unknown.
Fire crews had the blaze under control, but around 3:45 p.m. they were still monitoring hot spots on a 4 acre to 5 acre area.
The thick smoke from the ridge line blaze off County Road could be seen for miles.
