    Man accused of assault, restraint

WATERFORD — Vermont State Police say a Waterford man sexually assaulted a woman at his residence and then refused to let her leave while he was holding a gun Monday afternoon.

Steven C. Cross, 25, assaulted the 20-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, when she came over to pick up clothes, according to state police.

State police say the woman did eventually leave and called state police who arrived and found Cross holding a .50-caliber muzzle loader with the primer in place and safety off.

State police say Cross was eventually arrested and cited for aggravated sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint.

He was scheduled to appear in Caledonia County criminal court Tuesday to answer the charges.
