Red Sox hope to bring some healing for Boston
CLEVELAND — The Boston Red Sox hope their return to the field will help their wounded city heal after the marathon bombings.
The clubhouse mood was somber Tuesday as the team prepared for a three-game series with the Indians. On Monday, the Red Sox were on their way to the airport when two bombs exploded at the Boston Marathon finish line. Three people were killed, with more than 170 injured.
Boston outfielder Jonny Gomes says the players have “heavy hearts” as they get ready to play while their city recovers. Pitcher Jon Lester says the tragedy “really hits home. Boston’s my home, just like everybody in this clubhouse.”
The Red Sox and Indians will wear black armbands to honor the victims.
A moment of silence will be observed before Tuesday’s first pitch.MORE IN Sports WireNEW YORK — No Manning. No Brady, for the first four games. No clear-cut favorite in the AFC.
