NORTHFIELD — Randy S. Porter Sr., 41, died Monday, April 15, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer at his home on Union Brook Road.
He was born in Randolph on Oct. 4, 1971, the son of Richard and Vivian (Allard) Porter. He is a graduate of Northfield High School, class of 1990, and later attended Johnson State College.
He married Alison B. Silva in Northfield on June 4, 1994.
He had worked for L.W. Davis & Son Builders of Northfield for many years and was a member of the Carpenters Union of Massachusetts.
Randy was a longtime volunteer coach for Northfield youth hockey and baseball teams. He enjoyed working on his house, completing numerous home improvements over the years. He loved playing softball and baseball as well as fishing. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Survivors include his wife, Alison Porter of Northfield; his father, Richard Porter and his wife, Cindy of Northfield; four children, Tatiana Czarnecki and her husband, Robert of North Carolina, Gavin, Randy, Jr., and Renee, all of Northfield; four siblings, Shawn Porter of Fairlee, Stephanie Porter and her partner, Tim Martin of Northfield, Lisa Zingo and her husband, Kyle of Orange, Jamie Johnson of Connecticut; one grandson, Aiden Czarnecki of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his brother, George Johnson.
Calling hours will be conducted Wednesday, April 17, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Ave. in Northfield. A memorial service celebrating Randy’s life will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. at the Grace Church, located in the Northfield High School Auditorium, followed by a gathering at the Rustic Restaurant in Northfield Falls. A private burial will take place in the family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield.
