BURLINGTON — Vermont’s federal prosecutors say a 30-year-old Massachusetts man is facing heroin distribution charges after he was arrested for allegedly selling 45 grams of heroin outside a White River Junction restaurant.

Court records stated that Chandara Sam, who goes by the alias “Po,” was arrested Wednesday after selling the drugs to a person who was working with law enforcement.

The records say Sam is a member of a larger group that has been distributing an especially strong form of heroin in the Burlington area since 2011.

After Sam’s arrest in Vermont, police in Massachusetts searched his Lowell home and recovered 30 more grams of heroin, $40,000 to $50,000 in cash, a handgun, ammunition and digital scales.

Sam is due to make his initial court appearance in the coming days.
