     | April 13,2013

WOODSTOCK — The Billings Farm and Museum is offering a weeklong Junior Farm Vet Camp in two sessions this summer. The sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24 to June 28 and July 15 to July 19.

Each five-day session will introduce students to the physiology and basic care of large farm animals under the guidance of a veterinarian. Participants will work alongside a large animal vet in the Billings livestock barns and learn the anatomy and physiology of cows, sheep, horses and chickens.

Students will spend time with the farm’s oxen, discuss their training in the context of animal behavior, and watch demonstrations in horse shoeing. Related activities will include butter, cheese, and ice cream making, working with wool, making rope, horse-drawn wagon rides and more.

The fee for Junior Farm Vet Camp is $300 for Billings Farm and Museum members and $325 for nonmembers. For more information or to register, call the museum weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 457-2355.
