• UConn women rout Louisville for 8th title
     | April 10,2013

NEW ORLEANS ó Freshman Breanna Stewart scored 23 points and Connecticut won its eighth national championship with a record 93-60 rout of Louisville on Tuesday night.

The victory tied Geno Auriemma and the Huskies (35-4) with Pat Summitt and Tennessee for the most titles in womenís basketball history. It was the most lopsided victory in a championship game.

It might not take long for Auriemma to pass Summitt the way Stewart and the rest of his Huskies played. His prized freshman was unstoppable, hitting shots from everywhere on the court.

The loss ended an unprecedented tournament run by Louisville (29-9) and left UConn as the only team to win both the menís and womenís titles in the same season.

The Cardinalsí menís team beat Michigan on Monday night and coach Rick Pitino was in the crowd trying to spur on the womenís program.

    It wasnít enough.
