for pot smuggling
BURLINGTON — Two brothers and another man from Canada have been sentenced after pleading guilty to a conspiracy to smuggle more than 600 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
In 2009, a federal grand jury in Burlington returned an indictment naming Philip Yates, 74, of Sherbrooke; his brother, Jean Yates, 58, of Magog; and Joey Davidson, 43, of Georgeville on charges of conspiring to smuggle the marijuana.
All three have been sentenced to time served, according to the U.S. attorney general’s office in Vermont.
Phil Yates and Davidson received credit for time they served in jail in Canada while contesting extradition to the United States. Authorities said both Philip and Jean Yates suffer from serious medical conditions.MORE IN Vermont NewsBOSTON — Pigs nearly managed to fly in Connecticut, terrorized hikers in Maine and drew a police...
