• State wasting money on new offices
    April 09,2013

So, Mr. Spaulding, if the reasonable cost per square foot, with parking, for new construction is about $400, and the cost per square foot is less than $50, including parking, for renovations, why is the Agency of Education being moved into a new building in Barre at a cost of $400 per square foot rather than stay where it is for a cost of no additional money per square foot, or move to a renovated building that the state already owns, e.g. the state complex, at a cost of $50 per square foot? In these tight fiscal times is it really so important that the entire AOE is in the same building? The AOE has functioned for at least 15 years in two facilities with little or no issues. So now we’re going to cut funding for social programs and raise taxes when the average taxpayer can barely afford to fill their tank with gas, heat their house and put food on their table, but we’re going to make sure that the AOE is in one building at that same taxpayer’s expense. Shame on your administration.
