    The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Southern Vermont will hold its annual Home & Recreation Show on Saturday at Spartan Arena in Rutland. Shown here is the show in April 2012.

    The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Southern Vermont will hold its 16th annual Home & Recreation Show on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Spartan Arena at the Diamond Run Mall on Route 7 South in Rutland Town.

    Admission is free.

    Door prizes will be given away throughout the day. The first 50 children will receive a wooden birdhouse, compliments of LaValley Building Supply.

    There will also be free kids’ activities from 9 to 11 a.m., provided by The Mentor Connector. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., youngsters can learn how to plant seeds in flower pots and take one home compliments of Home Depot.

    Events include free 30-minute workshops on a variety of topics:

    10 a.m. — Heat pumps, a new technology to heat your home more efficiently, presented by NeighborWorks of Western Vermont.

    11 a.m. — Home loans, from pre-approval to closing, presented by Heritage Family Credit Union and a professional appraiser.

    Noon — Wireless solutions for home and away, presented by Verizon Wireless.

    1 p.m. — Replacement windows, presented by Hurd Windows and Collaborations.

    2 p.m. — Organic lawn care and pest control, presented by The Grounds Guys.

    Exhibits include kitchens, building products and services, banks, insurance, chimney services, windows, doors, paint, decking, landscaping, stoves, baths, energy efficiency, heating, renewable energy, lawn care, cable, waste management, Internet and phone services, weatherization, pools and spas, and green building.
