• Roxbury runoff election set for Tuesday
     | March 29,2013

ROXBURY — The runoff election for the Select Board seat currently held by Chairman Shawn Neun will be held by Australian ballot Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the town office.

Neun and challenger Tim Martin Jr. ran against each other for the three-year seat on Town Meeting Day this month, but Town Clerk Tammy Legacy said the vote was split 142-142.

After the tie was announced, Neun said one of the reasons the vote was so close was that some people thought they were voting for Martin’s father, as Martin had chosen not to be listed with “Jr.” on the ballot. Also, Neun said Martin had been scaring people into voting against the chairman by saying the board was “ruining the town and running it in debt.”

Martin said he was simply informing people about how much the town owed from Tropical Storm Irene and that while FEMA and the state have promised to take care of the $400,000 debt, the money was not in hand yet.
