• Former trooper in Indiana prison

    BURLINGTON — A former Vermont state police sergeant who pleaded guilty to padding his timesheets has been sent to an Indiana prison.

    Jim Deeghan was sentenced to two years in prison in January for stealing nearly $213,000 from taxpayers.

    Records show the 49-year-old Deeghan is at the Marion County Jail II in Indianapolis, which is operated by the Corrections Corp. of America under a contract with the county.

    The jail has maximum, medium, minimum and work-camp sections.

    Deeghan, who started his sentence in January, was first taken to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington. He was then sent to the Southeast State Correctional Facility in Springfield before the transfer.
