• Police: State security guards stole gas, items

    WATERBURY — Vermont State Police say two former security guards at state buildings misused state fuel cards and stole items.

    Kevin Stevens, 31, of Marshfield, and Scott Whitaker, 28, of Waterbury Center, were cited on a charge of grand larceny. State police say the two were security guards for the Department of Buildings and General Services.

    The two men were working at buildings in Montpelier and Waterbury during the times when electronic equipment was stolen, according to police. State police said the value of the gas and items believed stolen is more than $2,000.

    Both men are scheduled to appear in Washington County criminal court May 9 to answer the charge.
