    Double standard?

    If I wrote a letter to The Times Argus comparing a racial or ethnic group to animals it would rightly be rejected out of hand.

    Just because the Constitution gives someone a right to sink into hate speech doesn’t mean that your newspaper is obligated to publish their drivel.

    Yet your editors apparently have no problem publishing a letter (March 26) that explicitly compares same-sex marriage to bestiality.

    The sentiments expressed in Mr. Bair’s letter are hateful in exactly the same way that any letter calling a particular group of people subhuman would be.

    The only merits of the letter are that the author knows a few multisyllabic words and how to write complete sentences.

    Apparently that’s good enough for The Times Argus.
