• Barre Police Log: Forklift, plugged toilet cause trouble

    The following is a sampling of calls Barre police received in recent days.



    March 18

    A woman driving on Merchant Street ran into the blades of a forklift that were sticking out in the roadway on March 15. She said the estimate to repair her 2001 Subaru Forester was almost $6,000.

    A two-car accident occurred on Summer Street around 10:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

    Someone was on a Washington Street porch peering in windows.



    March 19

    A two-car accident occurred on Summer Street around 7:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

    An eighth-grade boy was repeatedly backing a black car in and out of a driveway on Tremont Street.

    Someone vandalized a vehicle on North Main Street.

    On North Main Street, someone took $900 out of a woman’s account.



    March 20

    A two-car accident occurred on South Main Street around 3:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.

    A woman’s wallet was stolen from her car on North Main Street.

    On North Main Street, the driver of a red Hyundai purposely swerved to splash pedestrians with water.



    March 21

    A stray black Lab was found at the intersection of Route 62 and North Main Street.

    On River Street, a cable was hanging across the roadway.

    Someone stole beer from a Washington Street store.



    March 22

    A plugged toilet was flooding an apartment on Summer Street.

    On Merchants Row, a dirty golden retriever jumped into a woman’s car.

    Someone stole a 1999 gold Ford Taurus on Washington Street.

    On Bailey Street, a woman heard a gunshot.



    March 23

    A woman called saying she believed she had cat problems with too many felines and a flea infestation on Scampini Square.

    Tools were stolen from a vehicle on North Main Street.

    A black Subaru with a plastic bag in the back window was doing doughnuts on a neighbor’s lawn on Circle Street.



    March 24

    Someone smelled smoke inside a South Main Street building.

    A 6- or 7-year-old child was sitting on a slanted roof on Seminary Street.

    On Route 302, a man was jumping in and out of traffic.



    The following is a sampling of citations Barre police issued in recent days.

    On March 3, Joshua Sylvester, 21, was cited on a charge of unlawful trespass. He is scheduled to appear in Washington County criminal court April 18 to answer the charge.
