BARRE — Police say a Williamstown man was dragged by a car and then hit by the vehicle Saturday morning after an argument.

Jennifer Caplin, 33, of Montpelier, was cited on charges of driving under the influence and aggravated assault after police say she dragged Adam Huot, 26, across Washington Street as passenger Heather Brown, 31, of Barre, held onto his shirt. Huot told police he got free of the car on Perry Street and ran down that street to get away.

Police say that when Huot ran into a driveway near the intersection of Perry and Spaulding streets, Caplin followed with the vehicle and hit him from behind, sending him flying. Caplin revved the engine and backed up, police say, but Huot ran onto a lawn with a retaining wall, because he believed Caplin was going to hit him again.

Police say Caplin drove off Perry Street and onto the lawn, heading for Huot, but that he got out of the way.

Huot called 911, and Caplin was picked up by police and cited. Police say Huot was taken to Central Vermont Medical Center with bumps and bruises and non-life-threatening injuries.

Caplin is to appear in Washington County criminal court April 4 to answer the charges.
