Obel H. Wells Rites
BARRE TOWN — The Mass of Christian Burial for U.S. Army Retired Col. Obel H. “Obie” Wells of Sportsman Road, Rotonda West, Fla., was celebrated Thursday, March 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church. He was a longtime Barre Town resident, stockbroker and financial adviser, who died March 3, 2013, at the Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.
The Rev. Leopold Bilodeau, pastor of the church, was the celebrant and homilist. Crucifer Lawrence Riley led the Prayer of the Faithful and assisted at communion.
Organist Rosemary Badeau accompanied singers Romeo Bilodeau and Ronald Routhier in the hymns “On Eagles Wings,” “Shepherd Me, O God,” “God So Loved the World,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “Here I am, Lord,” “Song of Farewell” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”
Words of remembrance were shared by longtime friend and golfing colleague, William Ross.
The Old Testament lesson was read by family friend Susan Rothschild and Liz’s father-in-law, Allen Blake, read from the New Testament. The Gifts were brought to the altar by granddaughters Julie Blake and Katrina Wells.
The bearers were son Michael Wells, son-in-law Courtland Blake and grandsons Calvin Blake and Steven, Nicholas, Andrew and Konstantine Wells. Later burial, with full military honors accorded, will be made in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Fellowship and luncheon followed at the Hilltop Restaurant in Barre Town.
