CALAIS — Lucille Willett MacLellan, 91, of Upper Curtis Pond Road, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Her family had been at her bedside.
Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Quincy, Mass., she was the daughter of Arthur and Clair (Fournier) Willett. She graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 1940 and later from Vermont Junior College, both in Montpelier.
After World War II, she married Alexander MacLellan in Barre. Following their marriage, they resided in East Hartford, Conn., where she was employed as an actuarial statistician for the Hartford (Conn.) Insurance Group. Following their retirement in 1975, they returned to their present home on Curtis Pond where they had since resided. Alexander died July 9, 1998.
She enjoyed knitting, college basketball, swimming, was an avid Boston Celtics basketball fan and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Montpelier.
Survivors include her son, Craig MacLellan, of Calais; two grandchildren, Lucas and Laura MacLellan, both in North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Rose Willett, in Burlington; and more distant relatives.
Besides her parents and her husband, Alexander, she was predeceased by her brother, Lionel “Uncle Frenchy” Willett.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Catholic Church in Montpelier.
Later interment will be made in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre.
