BARRE — A former central Vermont man is facing charges of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl in 2011.
David S. Langevin, 24, currently of East Palo Alto, N.M., pleaded not guilty Thursday to felonious sexual assault on a victim under 13 years old in Washington County criminal court. If convicted, he faces a maximum of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
According to the police affidavit, the girl told her grandmother that Langevin, who was dating the girl’s mother at the time, made her put her hands on his genitals and he had touched hers. An investigator with the Department for Children and Families told police she found evidence of sexual abuse and that the child had a sexually transmitted disease.
The girl tested positive for chlamydia, according to authorities. The investigator said the girl also indicated Langevin would come into her room at night and rape her.
Police said the mother of the child told a doctor at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington that she had been treated for a positive test for chlamydia while she was pregnant with the girl, but the girl had been delivered by cesarean section. The mother also said she and Langevin had gone to Planned Parenthood and been tested for sexually transmitted diseases and had come back clean.
The mother said her daughter had been molested when she was 16 months old by an 18-year-old male.
According to the doctor’s report, the girl had no physical injuries, such as bruising or cuts to her genitals, that could be evidence of sexual abuse.
Police said that when they contacted Langevin to talk about the allegation, he said he was moving away, insisting he was innocent because there was no evidence he had done anything.
Medical records obtained by police show that Langevin tested positive for chlamydia in 2008 and 2011.MORE IN Central VermontRutland County Amateur Radio Operators conducted a ham “Field Day” and amateur radio open house...
