WATERBURY CENTER — Marilyn Kellett, 86, a longtime resident of Waterbury Center, passed away in the comfort of her home and family on Thursday evening, March 7, 2013. Born in Waterbury Center on March 25, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Fred O. and Pearl (Russell) Fahner. On Oct. 13, 1945, she married Paul E. Kellett in Waterbury. Paul, her husband of nearly 67 years, predeceased Marilyn on Sept. 16, 2012.
Marilyn attended schools in Waterbury Center and Waterbury. The year prior to her marriage, Marilyn worked at the former Redmond’s Bakery in Montpelier where she learned to decorate cakes and bake a wide variety of special treats. This became the foundation to her chosen vocation as she partnered with her sister-in-law, Maydene Kellett, in operating Kellett’s Kookie Kitchen on Maple Street in Waterbury Center. For many years, they were well-known in the greater central Vermont area for their delicious bakery goods, especially maple glazed doughnuts, strawberry-rhubarb pies and chocolate chip cookies.
Marilyn was a longtime member of Waterbury Center Community Church. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, putting together jigsaw puzzles and was an avid bingo enthusiast.
Marilyn is survived by her two children, Wendy Nelson and her husband, Larry, of Waterbury Center, Peter Kellett and his wife, Candy, of Waterbury Center; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Maydene Kellett, of Waterbury Center; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Marilyn was predeceased by two sisters, Carolyn Miller and Mildred Dow.
Funeral services will be held from the Waterbury Center Community Church on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Later interment will take place in the Waterbury Center Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641 (www.cvhhh.org); or to the Waterbury Center Community Church, P.O. Box 216, Waterbury Center, VT 05677. Assisting the family is the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury.
